This fascinating model represents an actual vehicle serving with s.Pz.Jg.Abt.560 during rail transportation from Germany to assembly area for Kursk. It bears an interesting ‘wavy’ camouflage of brown lines, and tactical markings. As an open-topped vehicle, there is a host of detail visible inside the fighting compartment, and details have been faithfully reproduced and painted realistically. To finish it off, it has been given a light weathering to add that extra touch of realism.
Named the “Rhinoceros” (“Nashorn” in German), this 24-ton tracked vehicle was designed in 1942 as a self-propelled anti-tank gun. It mounted the formidable 8.8cm PaK43 gun and served with independent Panzerjäger units. A total of 494 were produced, and they first saw action in the summer of 1943 on the Eastern Front.
