Corgi Louis Bleriot X1 Monoplane. CS90124REF:CS90124 Length 75mm Wingspan 85mm On the 25th July, 1909 Louis Bleriot became the first person to make a powered air crossing of the English Channel in the fragile looking XI. Designed by Louis Bleriot with the aid of Raymond Saulnier, the X1 was first flown on January 23rd, 1909. The X1 had a 28hp REP engine and a wire braced shoulder-mounted wing using a wing-warping system for lateral control, similar to the Wright Flyer. It was in this aircraft that Bleriot won the £1000 prize offered by the Daily Mail newspaper for the first flight across the English Channel.
