Boeing KC-97L Stratofreighter, 121st. Air Refuelling Wing, USAF, Lockbourne AFB, Ohio, USA,1974 (Re-fuelling A Phantom) AA99190REF: AA99190 Scale: 1:144 Wingspan 298mm New Release New Tooling This latest release from Corgi features a Stratofreighter of the 121st air refuelling wing and a F4 Phantom in the difficult process of transferring fuel in mid air. This superb model comes with a special re-fuelling stand to perfectly recreate the drama of this amazing feat of airmanship. The C-97 was the military transport version of the Boeing Stratocruiser. Between 1943 and 1950, 74 Stratofreighters were ordered; the first flight occurred on Nov. 15 1944. A tanker version (KC-97) was introduced in 1950 using the "flying boom" refuelling system and all subsequent USAF contracts for C-97s were for tankers. On June 7, 1973, the aircraft on display was christened "Zeppelinheim" by the mayor of that German town honouring its use by the 160th Air Refuelling Group (Ohio ANG) during Operation "Creek Party," the aerial refuelling of NATO forces in Europe. It was flown to the Museum in August 1976.
