US34903 In 1938 Hauptmann Gerhard Barkhorn joined the Luftwaffe and saw action in the Battle of Britain. In August 1942 he transferred to II/JG52 and flew the Me-109 which was his favourite aircraft. Unlike others in the Luftwaffe, he was not a big single-day scorer. His best single mission score was seven kills in a single day. This vignette from Corgi portrays Barkhorn describing one of his kills to his ground crew. Barkhorn flew over 1,100 combat missions and was shot down nine times and scored 300 victories.
